The LEYU LPV-20 series is a fully sealed, constant-voltage output, low-power waterproof switching power supply introduced by LEYU ELECTRIC. As a foundational constant-voltage model within LEYU’s rainproof and waterproof power supply product line, this series features an IP67-rated, fully encapsulated plastic housing. Its internal electrical components are completely potted, providing comprehensive dust protection (Level 6) as well as protection against short-term immersion in water.
The core design philosophy behind the LPV-20 series is remarkably clear: it targets the low-power segment (15W to 20.2W), covering low-voltage DC output applications. It is primarily designed to power outdoor LED lighting, security equipment, and small-scale industrial devices, placing a strong emphasis on installation flexibility and environmental adaptability. The series offers four common output voltage options—5V, 12V, 15V, and 24V—suitable for driving LED light strips. Each voltage variant operates in Constant Voltage (CV) mode, effectively meeting the requirement for a stable operating voltage demanded by devices such as LED light strips.
Furthermore, the design of the LPV-20 series incorporates multiple safety compliance considerations. The LPV-20 series adopts a constant voltage (CV) design. Regardless of the model, the output voltage remains stable at the specified value (5V, 12V, 15V, 24V). In LED lighting products worldwide, LED strips, rigid LED bars, and LED modules are almost all constant-voltage driven. The built-in low ripple & noise suppression circuit of the LPV-20 (ripple & noise: 5V model ≤80mVp-p, 12V model ≤120mVp-p, 15V model ≤120mVp-p, 24V model ≤150mVp-p) is a key measure to ensure LED lifespan and stable visual performance – excessive ripple can cause visible flicker or uneven light output. Based on the LPV-20 specifications, its ripple control falls within a good engineering range.
【Wide Universal AC Input】
Supports full-range AC input from 90V to 264V, 47-63Hz, and also accepts DC 127V-370V input. Whether for 110V AC grids (e.g., Americas) or 220V AC grids (e.g., mainland China), or in industrial environments with unstable voltage, a single LPV-20 can be used directly without a manual voltage selector switch or an external transformer. An even more critical feature is its ability to withstand a 300VAC surge input for 5 seconds. This is extremely important for outdoor power applications, where lightning strikes or start/stop of heavy equipment in older residential areas or industrial parks often generate high-voltage instantaneous spikes lasting hundreds of milliseconds to several seconds – such surges are a leading cause of switching power supply failure. The LPV‑20 addresses this fundamentally with its 4‑5 second surge withstand capability.
【Fully Potting Waterproof & Dustproof Design】
The external housing is made of an insulating, flame-retardant, fully isolated plastic case, and the interior is fully potted with epoxy resin sealing, ensuring that the PCB and internal components are completely isolated from moisture and dust. This construction brings two direct benefits:
Reliable waterproofing and moisture resistance: Under continuous rain, high humidity, or extreme outdoor conditions, the IP67 protection rating of the LPV‑20 means no moisture can penetrate the internal circuit and cause a short circuit.
Vibration damping: The potting material provides cushioning characteristics. When installed on top of light poles, in large advertising sign fan rooms, or in traffic equipment, it effectively resists mild vibrations and shock impacts, extending the power supply’s service life.
4.【Four Built‑in Protection Mechanisms】
It incorporates four fundamental protection circuits:
Short Circuit Protection (SCP): In case of an output short circuit, the power supply automatically shuts down. After the fault is removed, it recovers automatically, preventing damage to expensive downstream lighting modules or controllers.
Over Load Protection (OLP): When the load exceeds 110%–150% of rated power, the output is automatically cut off using hiccup mode. Recovery is automatic after the fault condition is removed.
Over Voltage Protection (OVP): For the four models (5V/12V/15V/24V), corresponding over‑voltage shutdown thresholds are set (5.75–6.75V / 13.8–16V / 17.5–21V / 28–32V). When output voltage rises abnormally, it is clamped by a Zener diode and actively shut down, preventing damage to downstream LED modules.
Over Temperature Protection (OTP): When the internal temperature exceeds the designed safety threshold, the output power is automatically reduced or operation is suspended, resuming normal operation after the temperature returns to a safe level.
5.【Ultra‑Low Leakage Current】
Even with long‑term outdoor exposure, the LPV‑20 series has a leakage current of <0.25mA at 240VAC. This means that during installation or maintenance, even if a person contacts the metal case (or if the case is damaged and exposes internals), there is no risk of electric shock due to leakage current. For outdoor power equipment, this parameter is an essential engineering safety guarantee.
6.【100% Full Load Burn‑in and 2‑Year Warranty】
All LPV‑20 series power supplies undergo 100% full load burn‑in testing before leaving the factory – they are operated under high and low temperature environments for a specified period while output parameters are monitored, thereby screening out and rejecting products with early potential defects, ensuring a 100% factory pass rate. We still recommend maintaining good drainage conditions during actual installation and applying secondary waterproofing treatment at cable entry points.
Q2: My LED strip requires 24V, but its rated power is 30W. Can I use the LPV‑20‑24 to drive it?
A: The LPV‑20‑24 has a rated power of 20.2W and a rated current of 0.84A. If the actual power consumption of the LED strip is 30W / 24V ≈ 1.25A, this exceeds the rated output current range of the power supply. Long‑term overload will trigger over‑load protection, causing the power supply to hiccup or shut down automatically. We recommend switching to a higher‑wattage series, such as the LPV‑60W (60W/24V, up to 2.5A) or LPV‑100W (100W/24V, up to 4.5A). As a rule of thumb, keeping a 20% power margin is beneficial for stable operation.
Q3: I need to drive an RGB dimmable controller plus a single‑color high‑power floodlight. What are the limitations of the constant‑voltage mode of the LPV‑20?
A: The LPV‑20 output is constant voltage (CV), meaning the output voltage remains essentially stable regardless of the load. It is suitable for directly driving LED strips, LED modules, and dimmable lights or controllers that require a constant‑voltage input. However, if the downstream luminaire requires a constant current (CC) input – meaning the LED driver must draw a fixed current from the power supply, with the voltage automatically adjusting to meet the demand – then the LPV‑20 CV power supply cannot be used as a direct replacement. Please check the drive type specification in the LED luminaire datasheet to determine whether constant voltage or constant current is required.
Q4: During installation, I have a switch module or plug that includes a ground (FG) wire, but the plastic case of the LPV‑20 has no FG terminal. Can I connect it safely?
A:The LPV‑20 is a Class II double‑insulated power supply. This design means no ground (FG) connection is required; internal double insulation / reinforced insulation directly meets electrical safety requirements. If you are replacing a metal‑cased power supply that required grounding, simply connect the live (L) and neutral (N) wires to the LPV‑20. There is no need to connect a separate “ground wire” from the outlet to the power supply, as the grounding function is already fulfilled by the internal insulation level. This approach is particularly safe for outdoor and damp environments and presents a lower risk of electric shock leakage accidents than metal‑cased power supplies.
Q5: The case feels very hot in winter. Is this an over‑temperature fault?
A: The LPV‑20 uses only natural convection cooling (no fan), dissipating heat through the case and potting material. Under full load, the plastic case surface temperature may reach 60‑70°C. This is normal, especially when the ambient temperature is high. The power supply has a robust and independent over‑temperature protection (OTP) mechanism, so it will not be damaged by the case temperature being high. Nevertheless, we still recommend leaving space for air circulation during installation.
Q6: The input wires supplied with the LPV‑20 seem very thin. Can I replace them myself?
A: The LPV‑20 leaves the factory with pre‑terminated I/O leads, and the wire gauge has been safety certified. It is not recommended to replace the wires yourself, as doing so may damage the potting seal or cause the protection rating to fail. If you need longer leads, the extension should be done by following electrical standards within junction boxes, while maintaining the IP rating.
